In 2003, Jangara Ramen was voted as the most popular ramen shop in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. Today, it is still one of the best ramen shops you can go to in Tokyo. I've read many reviews from people, and they all agree. As you can see from the pictures above, they were taken 10 minutes apart, and the line was growing already at 11:30am in the morning.

Just standing in line and looking at the menu above was making me hungry. Jangara ramen features 5 different styles of ramen, each with it's own distinct flavor. As my first visit, I decided to go with the tokontsu soup base, as it was quickly becoming my favorite ramen. Along with ramen and the usual toppings you can add, they also have other side dishes such as dry curry with rice and fish eggs with rice. I decided to add the curry with rice along with my ramen.

The ramen served here are from the Kyushu area, which is famous for its tonkotsu soup base ramen. As you can tell, the pork bone and meat flavor and grease have fully immersed in the soup. Although it might look a bit oily, the soup was absolutely amazing. The pork was very tender, and the sesame, fish egg, and green onion toppings mixed very well with soup. The ramen itself is also the typical ramen from the Kyushu region. I prefer noodles from other regions, but no complaints from me. I decided to add some garlic and pepper, and it was just splendid.

Conclusion

If I could eat here everyday, then that's where all my money would go. The soup was one of the best I've ever tasted. The ramen itself wasn't my favorite, but I can't stress this enough, the soup is what truly makes ramen so special. Jangara Ramen has several locations throughout the greater Tokyo area. But whichever one you decide to go, expect a wait. Highly, highly recommended!!
